12月4日上午,初二年级英语班外教Ryan进行了关于声音的公开课展示。初中高端英语项目负责人张丽君主任以及英语组教师共15余人观摩听课并评课。

Ryan在warm up环节,提问了学生很多关于声音的小知识,紧接着带着学生以图文并茂的方式学习了声音有关的词汇,如分贝、神经、音量、音高、音频等。

在scan reading环节,Ryan注重培养学生速读并快速定位信息的技巧,例如找同词、找整体词场(大语境),并鼓励学生走上讲台,在PPT上画出答案在文中的出处。学生对于问题答案都找的非常准确,速度非常快,整个环节极为高效。

Scan reading过后,Ryan准备了一个介绍声音的有趣视频(无字幕),配以听力学案。学生在听的过程中不仅复习了书上所学内容,更学会捕捉视频中提到的课本以外的关键信息,对于“有趣的声音”有了更直观而深刻的认识,对于科学是“有趣的”有了更深刻的理解。

课堂最后,学生以小组合作的方式,完成了针对文本细节的任务型阅读。

课后,中外籍教师进行了公开课的评课与交流。Ryan简单陈述了本节课的目标并口头反思目标的达成情况。听课教师反馈了听课感受并提出建议。教师们一致认为本堂课完整而高效,学生对于文本的理解能力、对于生词的运用能力、对于科学知识的吸收能力都是非常棒的。
Reflection on Open Class

As a new teacher at this school, it was my first time to perform an open class according to the particular formats and requirements of the institution. Adapting my lesson for this alternative format was a proceed that I was ably assisted in by my coworkers Cora and Ellen.
The planning aspect required a few more demonstrative exercises to better signal the lesson goals and intended student learning to an external audience. This was achieved by integrating media and group activities into the lesson, group activities especially being more viable due to the seating arrangement of the open class room.
The lesson went fine in general, the students were attentive and performed all the tasks to standard. Students proved capable of answering questions both through nomination and elicitation despite being a mixed ability group. They understood the content and were able to demonstrate that knowledge in their reading exercises along with 2 small tests.
The areas I think could be improved would be as follows. A better integration of lower ability students in order to balance classroom management time. Making use of the blackboard to note down answers and clearer CCQs.
In conclusion, I feel the students performed well and aside from a few small changes, I would be very happy to teach this lesson again.
