“助力学生成长,做好演讲展示”——初中高端英语项目举行中外教联合教研活动

   10月30日下午,我校初中高端英语项目组举行了主题为助力学生成长,做好演讲展示的中外教联合教研活动。初中高端英语项目全体中外籍教师和来自杭州余杭区正在我校跟岗学习的两位校长参加了本次活动。会议由初中教务处副主任张丽君主持。

首先,张丽君布置了近期的工作安排并针对外教在期中考试后的公开课准备作了具体要求。接着由来自美国的外籍教师Mr. Zucker主持展开“How to Give A Solid Presentation”的主题研讨。

Mr. Zucker教学经验丰富,功底深厚,对于英语教学有成熟的思路和实践方法。他首先让老师们分组讨论了在布置演讲任务前需要做哪些准备,老师们结合自己的教学实践给出了多种答案,Mr. Zucker总结了三点;1.准备整学期的三个话题,并给到学生具体的时间安排;2.准备发给学生的学案 3.准备表格让学生填写演讲目标,而在课堂上最重要的准备工作则是向学生讲清楚演讲要求和评分标准,这是保证学生顺利完成演讲展示的重要的步骤。

之后Mr. Zucker又跟大家分享了怎样准备PPT,怎样准备提示卡,以及着装得体的具体要求和一些做展示时的小技巧,例如照顾到观众和听众、恰当使用肢体语言等。Mr. Zucker还播放了一段视频向大家展示了好的和不好的演讲范例,并且以科学话题展示课为例,跟大家分享了他的教学思路。

最后,Mr. Zucker别出心裁地给现场老师布置了任务实操演练---Stephen HawkingJack MaJackie ChanBill GatesMichael Jackson等名人中选择一个现场进行演讲准备然后分组进行展示。三组老师接到任务后分别选择了Jack MaBill GatesMichael Jackson,在讨论过程中,中外籍教师们团结协作、热烈讨论,每组教师都按照培训要求从家庭背景、教育经历、职业成就、获奖和影响力等方面完成了现场演讲,把整个活动推向了至高点。

英语口语展示课是我校的英语特色中重点关注的一项技能课,旨在培养学生的调查、总结、展示等能力。一节好的口语展示课,不仅能调动学生的学习主动性,让学生积极参与课堂,真正做到自主学习,发现学习;还能让学生通过自我调查,实践参与等方式将语言运用到生活中,从而习得语言;另外,口语展示课的呈现方式给学生提供了平台,对学生的社交能力,表演能力,语言组织能力等多方面素养有促进作用。

此次基于帮助学生做好演讲展示的研讨会让全体老师收获颇丰,整个研讨过程环环相扣,层层深入。中外籍教师不但在本次教研活动中各抒己见、精诚合作、积极学习,而且通过最后的实践演练,对如何帮助学生做好演讲展示有了更新的理解和认识。在之后的教学工作中,初中高端英语项目的所有中外籍教师们将会更加紧密合作,共同探讨学生在演讲展示方面的问题,努力进一步提升学生的演讲展示水平。

Thank you Zucker for giving us a wonderful workshop today. I have learned many practical tips before arranging the presentation assignments for the students. And I really admire your hard work for providing students with the very detailed guideline about how they can do each slice of their PPT. Thanks to Ricky for creating such an engaging and interesting presentation for our meeting on how we can help students create more effective presentations in class.  The talk focused on what (as teachers) we should be doing in preparation to help our students by making it as straight forward as possible, by making handouts for example. Ricky also went over what we can teach the children in class such as making efficient note cards which will give them key points they have to remember to talk about. He also highlighted that you shouldn’t have a word for word script as the student may fail to make eye contact with the audience if just reading off a piece of paper. All of these points have really helped me as a teacher better explain to my students how to create a successful presentation. Thanks again Ricky!

Thanks for Ricky's sharing! It is a pity when I was in the middle school even  in university, I didn't have any guidance on presentation learning and skills, so i have been  afraid of presenting my ideas in front of others.The schools in western countries attach importance to speech report and group activities,which are unfamiliar and not good at by our Chinese students. That's why the instruction and guidance of how to do presentaion mean a lot to both teachers and students.                  

This presentation introduced the procedures   of how to perfectly present what students shoud say about their topics, and explained the evaluation criteria in detail. Particularly, our teachers were asked to present the topic according to our choice, hoping to put what we had learned into practice. I benefited a lot from this workshop!

Really thank Ricky for giving us so wonderful and meaningful workshop and I have learned so many things. Moreover,I will take advantage of them to improve my ways of teaching.  I will spend more time preparing my PPT so that it can be more welcome and clear.  When giving a presentation , students should do more reasearch. I believe, in class like this, students will make a wonderful and confident presentation. In the end, wish everybody a happy Halloween
